My understanding is that depending on the model year, there may be multiple updates involved and not just the IHU - the Bluetooth module is frequently cited as something that also needs an update to work with this in some cases. I assume that they got all of that mess straightened out by now.

I have heard stories from some UK Volvo sites about some people getting their system bricked by the upgrade process in the early days. I finally used Volvo support (they communicated the procedure to the dealer) together with the web page you cited, and after that they had the technical information they needed to finish the job. Not every dealer is fully up to speed on how all of this works - the first couple of times they told me that there were no updates for my car, or they told me that USB updates weren't possible with my model year.
They didn't charge me for any of it since my car was CPO and they treated it as warranty. The dealer also insisted on doing the map update themselves, and they gave me a loaner (Don Beyer in Falls Church).
